Why Our Ride?

We're here to give back to the community

Please join us for our 27th Annual Bike Ride through the beautiful Gold Coast to help the children of our community!

For the past 26 years, the Kiwanis Club of North Shore Long Island has conducted the Nassau to Suffolk Bicycle Challenge on Long Island now renamed as the Nassau Bicycle Challenge.  The event was begun by Tom De Stio, whose son was born prematurely and with multiple health issues.  He was taken care of in the Critical Care Unit of the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center (KPTC) in Cohen Children’s Medical Center, now located in New Hyde Park.  When Tom joined Kiwanis, he realized that it was the perfect venue for facilitating his “giving back”, and he has run 26 successful bike rides.

A Community Event for a Cause

The proceeds from the Bike Ride will support the work of the Kiwanis Club of North Shore Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 organization. The foundation supports charities such as Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center, Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation, Kamp Kiwanis, and other local charities aligned with that of Kiwanis International, “Serving the Children of the World.” Since 1996 we’ve raised over $290,000!

Over 26 Years and Counting

As many of you are loyal riders from our past bike rides, we wanted to clarify challenges we have faced and changes we have made.  We have restructured our ride to a shorter ride with 25 mile loop and an additional 10 mile extra leg for those who wish to have a more rigorous challenge. ONLY covering parts of Nassau County.

Our Ride

  • Staggered Starts

  • Snacks and water will be served

  • It will be a rain/shine event and if the road ride is prohibited by State, County or Local officials, it will be a virtual event. No refunds will be given as all monies will go to the designated charities.

  • Questions???  Email NSKiwanisforkids@gmail.com
